1. Introduction

Non-Stuffy Attorneys, LLC ("NSA," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Non-Stuffy Attorneys Directory located at directory.nonstuffyattorneys.com and beta.nonstuffyattorneys.com (the "Directory"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you visit our Directory, create or claim an attorney listing, submit a review, or otherwise interact with our services.

By accessing or using the Directory, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the Directory.

  • Submit a review: Your name, email address, review text, and star ratings across multiple dimensions (responsiveness, communication, trustworthiness, results, and overall experience).
  • Verify your identity: Email address, phone number, and verification codes sent via email, SMS, or voice call through our third-party verification provider (Twilio).
  • Contact us: Any information you include in communications with us.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you visit the Directory, we may automatically collect certain information, including:

  • Device information: Browser type, operating system, device type, and screen resolution.
  • Usage data: Pages visited, time spent on pages, click patterns, search queries, and referring URLs.
  • Network information: IP address and approximate geographic location.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: Session cookies for authentication and preferences. See Section 7 for details.

2.3 Information from Third Parties

We may receive information about attorneys from publicly available sources, including state bar association records, court filings, and professional directories, to populate and verify attorney listings in the Directory.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Providing our services: To operate the Directory, display attorney profiles, process listing claims, publish reviews, and facilitate connections between potential clients and attorneys.
  • Identity verification: To verify that individuals claiming attorney listings are who they say they are, using email, SMS, and voice call verification.
  • Communication: To send transactional emails (claim confirmations, approval notifications, verification codes), and to respond to your inquiries.
  • Improvement: To analyze usage patterns, improve our services, and develop new features.
  • Security: To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
  • Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.

4. How We Share Your Information

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • Public attorney profiles: Information included in attorney listings (name, firm, location, practice areas, bio, photos, reviews, and ratings) is publicly visible on the Directory. This is the core function of the service.
  • Service providers: We share information with third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Directory, including Twilio (SMS and voice verification), email delivery services, cloud hosting providers, and analytics tools. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information.
  • Affiliated platforms: The Directory shares a database with the Non-Stuffy Attorneys Client Portal. If you claim a listing and are approved, your information may be used to create a Client Portal account for managing your listing and accessing marketing services.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Attorney listing information is retained as long as the listing is active. Verification codes are automatically expired and purged after use. Review data is retained indefinitely as part of the public record of the Directory.

6. Data Security

We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure password hashing, access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The Directory uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

  • Essential cookies: Required for authentication, session management, and security. These cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies: Used to understand how visitors interact with the Directory, including page views, search queries, and navigation patterns. This data is aggregated and anonymized.

You can control cookie settings through your browser preferences. Disabling essential cookies may prevent you from using certain features of the Directory, such as claiming a listing or accessing your dashboard.

8. Your Rights and Choices

8.1 Access and Correction

If you have claimed a listing, you can access and update your profile information at any time through your attorney dashboard. For other requests, contact us using the information in Section 11.

8.2 Deletion

You may request deletion of your personal information by contacting us. Please note that we may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes, and publicly posted reviews may be retained in anonymized form.

8.3 California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. As noted above, we do not sell personal information. To exercise your CCPA rights, contact us using the information in Section 11.

8.4 Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. The Directory does not currently respond to DNT signals, as there is no industry-wide standard for how to handle them.

9. Children's Privacy

The Directory is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

The Directory may contain links to third-party websites, including attorney firm websites, social media profiles, and the Non-Stuffy Attorneys Client Portal.
